Everything you need to know about converting files with 1Format.

How it works

  1. Upload it. Drag a file onto the upload area or press Choose File. Files up to 100 MB are accepted.
  2. Choose the format. 1Format detects what kind of file you uploaded and shows only the formats it can be converted to.
  3. Convert it. Press Convert. Most files take a few seconds; large documents can take up to a minute.
  4. Download it. Save the result. Multi-page files (PDF pages, multi-page TIFF, slides) are delivered as a ZIP containing one image per page.

Which formats are supported?

Images (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF, BMP, GIF, SVG, ICO), documents (PDF, Word, RTF, text, HTML, OpenDocument), spreadsheets (Excel, CSV, OpenDocument) and presentations (PowerPoint, OpenDocument). The full, current list is on the Formats page.

Why does my file show a different format than its name?

1Format looks at the contents of a file, not just its name. A photo saved as .png that is really a JPEG will be shown as JPG. If the contents belong to an entirely different kind of file than the name suggests, the upload is refused for safety.

Are conversions perfect?

Conversions between similar formats (JPG to PNG, DOCX to PDF) are faithful. Conversions between fundamentally different formats are best-effort: PDF to Word recovers text and basic layout but complex designs can differ; converting to JPG drops transparency; converting to plain text removes formatting. When a conversion has known limitations, a note is shown before you convert.
